Breaking Ground:
The first thing to share about Earth Ground’s journey, is Gratitude! This wouldn’t be possible without the hosting farm & EVERYONE who contributes to operations, both in the field & behind the scenes. THANK YOU!!!
Materials: Strategy has been key for deciding what materials were going to have the widest impact on building a business from the “Ground”. (However, in this case ground isn’t zero volts it’s zero dollars.
Luckily, I happen to have a late winter birthday and I was asked what I’d like for a gift. I wanted some of the “good kind” of ground cover! Then traded the big fancy dinner for a favorite cheap dive & placed an order for seeds.
Having previously used polypropylene woven ground cover at home, I already had a few supplies like a hand torch & leather gloves to burn holes (because this material frays when cut), tools, posts, etc. The staples I had were only 4 inch, so I just shoveled some dirt along the rows & weighed it down with shovels & other implements. It “nestles’ to the ground pretty good in a few days.
Planting in woven ground cover.
Making the planting spots could be improved. Planting & side dressing could be more efficient with more room to work. Perhaps a bigger “x” shape would work better here.
Undoubtably, this material was worth it! It not only kept the weeds from half the garden, but the break lessened weeds throughout. It also allows the sandy soil to retain more moisture.
Thanks for visiting!
